We regularly make compotes of whichever fruit is in the season and recently we made a fresh batch of our Fig Orange Compote. That led us to this cake. We were surprised by how much our Peaches & Cream Cake has been liked by all of you - the flavours of course but also the format of the miniest cake possible.
Here we follow the same format but change things up with the flavours. The bottom layer is a fudgy moist chocolate cake It's crowned with a toasted hazelnut & cream cheese frosting and is filled with a generous dollop of said fruit compote. The fig orange pairs oh-so-well with the chocolate & hazelnut here lending the cake a perfect balance of chocolately, fruity & nutty flavours. We top the cake with candied hazel & orange peel which ties into the spirit of this holiday season and chilly weather beautifully.
Again, in the interest of achieving right balance we have kept this as a single layer cake and is available in a 4 in, 6 inch & a 9 inch version!
